A direct view CRT display retains its position as the most popular choice among all technologies. It has many strengths, including dependability, low price, and excellent performance in the best models. But they only come in sizes under 40", however. Rear-projection TVs offer the best value in large-screen displays, with LCD- and DLP-based models competing for top position. Substantial improvements have improved the handling of motion and blacks, while reducing visible glitches and screen artifacts. LCD flat panel displays boast impressive lists of benefits and panache, but with price tags to match, and are really practical only up to <40" size. Plasma displays perform much like LCD displays, but cost less per square inch, and get much bigger. Heat and short lifetimes are issues with plasma, however, that don t apply to LCDs. Whichever display type you choose, make sure to get the best connectivity for your HTPC. Especially if you want to maintain the highest-resolution HDTV your system can deliver, DVI, HDMI, or Component Video connections are desirable, if not downright necessary. wxPython has powerful date and time support (covering dates even hundreds of millions of years in the future). wxDateTime represents a specific point in time, whereas wxDateSpan and wxTimeSpan represent intervals. Data Grid, which is a component of grid computing, a concept that has evolved from distributed computing. The basic idea behind distributed computing is that if several computers are networked together, the workload can be divided into smaller pieces for each computer to work on. In principle, when n computers are networked together, the total processing time can be reduced down to 1/n of the single-computer processing time. It should be noted that this theoretical limit is unlikely to be achieved because of various unavoidable overheads, for example, data communication latency. Two important factors affect the design of a distributed computing schema. Processor speed variations in different computers make it important to implement the mechanism to balance the workload in distributed computing in a way that allows faster computers to be given more work to do. Otherwise, the speed of the processing will be slowed down by the slower computers in the distributed computing network. Data communication speed is another factor to consider. If workstations are connected by conventional Ethernet, with a maximum data transfer rate of 10 Mbits/s, the slower data transfer rate will limit the application of the distributed computing. Increased implementation of the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and gigabit Ethernet technologies will widen the parameter regime in which distributed computing is applicable. The minimum requirement for distributed computing is a networked computer system with software that can coordinate the computers in the system to work coherently to solve a problem. There are several software implementations available for distributed computing; an example is the Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) system
